Between 1949 and 1950, South African Railways placed the H-24 Third Class carriages into service. These along with C-33 all-coupe First Class, C-34 First Class and E-16 Second Class were the first steel bodied main line carriages to see service with SAR. They featured 8 compartments and 1 coupe and could seat 68 and sleep 51 people. All of the carriages were built in the UK by various manufacturers who had supplied the SAR in the past. They had two toilet cubicles, one at each end of the carriage.

Supplied unpainted, but with a detailed interior with separately applied compartment doors and seat backrests so the modeller can customise the model as they wish. The 16.5mm gauge versions are supplied with a cut down version of the bogies to allow them to swing without fouling the steps. Bogies, wheels, brake wheels, couplers and screws are included. The model also features accurate underframe equipment and accurate roof vent spacing and arrangement.
