With the amalgamation of the various rail companies into the Central South African Railways (CSAR) later to be abbreviated into South African Railways (SAR), the railways administration inherited a mish mash of rolling stock from the former railway administrations of the Union. The first CME, D. A. Hendrie, started introducing standard designs for passenger carriages in 1912, characterised by having the corridor cross over from one side to the other near the centre of the carriage. This was done to balance the carriages, as the compartment side was heavier than the corridor side.

One of the first was the C-16 First Class carriage, accomodating 26 passengers in five compartments and three coupes. The model is supplied in early configuration with full height toilet windows or later configuration with smaller toilet windows, the era can be selected when adding the model to your basket.

Supplied unpainted, but with a detailed interior with separately applied compartment doors, bunks and seat backrests so the modeller can customise the model as they wish. Window glazing is supplied in an assortment of fully closed, 3/4 open, half open, 1/4 open and fully open configurations for the modeller to customise individual vehicles. This model also features the fully sprung and operating inter carriage walkways unique to SARMODEL. Bogies, wheels, couplers and screws are included. The model also features accurate underframe equipment and accurate roof vent spacing and arrangement.
