6E1 Series 8

Please note: This is not the kit that we supplied previously. This model does not require a donor, it is complete with a DCC ready mechanism (NEM 8 pin) powered by a coreless motor and pantographs. The mechanism includes prototypical spoked wheels

The first 6E1 Series 8 was delivered 1979, and the last was delivered in 1981. They differed from the Series 6-7 locomotives in that a large access doors were fitted on the sides, below the inner window on the roof access ladder side (The window position was also raised) and below the outer window on the other side

The spotting eras as modelled can be loosely defined as Mid and Late.

As delivered (mid), the locomotive pilots (NOT cow-catchers!) had four long vertical slots on the right hand side side of the coupler.

The division between mid and late is based on the deletion of the outer vertical slot on the pilots on the right side of the coupler and the addition of strengthening plates underneath the cab side windows and cab side doors. This occurred in the early 1990s, but has not been applied to all locomotives in the series.

The modification applied where a plate was welded over the slots from the inside of the pilots is not taken into consideration, as this modification seems to have been applied somewhat haphazardly applied over the years.
